Ushering a new year in, for the majority of Filipinos, will always include fireworks. In fact, even though there is a memorandum order issued by the Philippine President, there are still people who buy and produce both legal and illegal fireworks to celebrate the coming of a new year.
An increase in the number of casualties due to explosives prompted Rodrigo Duterte to direct the Philippine National Police to confiscate and destroy any prohibited firecrackers. They were also tasked to suspend or revoke any manufacturer’s license and permit if found to be violating rules.
Today, there’s a 77% drop in firecracker related injuries since the memorandum was approved. With the directive, firecrackers are now regulated to protect the Filipino people. This also secures the safety of all manufacturers and consumers with how it’s transported from one place to another and the like. Driving along with fireworks is risky, especially if it wasn’t manufactured properly.
Cars operate on gas, thus, it’s not surprising why it is deemed hazardous. There’s a fire risk should the explosive be mishandled, thus, proper handling is critical. Below are safety precautions you must take into heart:
Don’t use the public transportation system
Should you decide to haul fireworks from point A to point B, remember to never take public transportation like train, buses, and the like. There’s a tremendous fire risk that is associated with explosives, thus, public transit must never be an option.
Don’t place in a passenger compartment
This includes any vehicle as there’s a possible rise in temperature in the compartment due to its proximity to the engine. Instead, store fireworks in the trunk of the car or truck to minimize risk and assure you a level of safety.
Don’t light a fire
This may be common sense, however, there are still some who tend to disregard the rule. Keep fire away from all types of fireworks or any flammable and explosive products. Doing so may spell disaster for you and the people around you.
Don’t place under direct sunlight
Wondering why? Liken your car windows to a magnifying glass under the scorching sun. It can have that kind of effect, which, surely you wouldn’t want.
